It is because in between soccer or football is the cheapest sport to play at any level. Look at the equipment you need a ball and a net or some cones for the goal. Overall it is cheap to play and easy to learn and that is why it is number 1 in the world look at all of these third world countries that can't afford to get their kids a bat and ball or a hoop to play basketball.

I think that football (soccer) is a game to were it is hard to score. At the same time, you need paticent and I think that it a beautiful game to watch and play.
