1/8(3x-5)=6/5(6x-2)+5
I'm taking an online algebra course and the prof insists he solved this. Answer must be in fraction form. I think there's a typo here somewhere. Prove me right!

1/8 *(3x-5) = 6/5 *(6x-2)+5

One eighth times (three times 'x' minus five) equals six fifths times (six times 'x' minus two) plus five

No, there isn't a typo in there. It is solveable in fractional form.

First, remove the parenthesis, and at the same time, move 5 into the fraction.

You get (3x - 5)/8 = (36x - 5 + 25)/5

Now, find a common denominator

You get (15x - 25)/40 = (288x - 50 + 125)/40

Multiply the both sides by 40

you get 15x - 25 = 288x - 50 + 125

Move them around and you get

15x - 288x = -50 + 125 + 25

Now solve for x

x = -273/100

The answer is x = -129/273

the working:
(3x - 5)/8 = 6(6x - 2)/5 + 5
x40: 5(3x - 5) = 48(6x - 2) + 200
15x - 25 = 288x - 96 + 200
-129 = 273x
x = -129/273

Brackets ans spaces are your friends. I can't tell whether this is
1/8 * (3x-5) = 6/5 * (6x-2) + 5
or
1/[8(3x-5)] = 6/[5(6x-2)+5]
or
1/[8(3x-5)] = 6/[5(6x-2)] + 5
