Very few PhD students at Harvard or any other top school pay for their educations. Almost all of them get fellowships, teaching assistantships or research assistantships. These awards pay tuition and fees as well as a reasonable living stipend.

SURE, HAPPENS ALL THE TIME, BIG TIME SUCCESSFULL/RICH PERSON GIVES A HUGE DONATION TO UNIVERSITY XYZ AND THEY GET AN HONORARY DOCTORATE... I'M SURE SOMEONE COULD DONATE ENOUGH MONEY TO HARVARD AND GET AN HONORARY DEGREE.
