Do you have to be really, really sick? I try to stay home if I can but I get annoyed by people who think it's 'heroic' to come in and infect everyone else!

Only if I'm VERY sick. To me, its not about being "heroic." I think its about work ethic. I'm not infectious often.. usually just the usual (headaches, menstrual cramps, etc). I don't like catching up or being out of the loop when I get back to work, and I know how hard my job is with someone out so I try to be a good team player. So when its not something truly contagious, and if I know I'll just go shopping or do housework while I'm home, its not serious enough to miss work.

So, I don't think its annoying when people are out sick... I just think its annoying when people are out sick and they weren't really sick enough to be out.

I feel the same, however, you can infect ppl and not know it.... I did last weekend. I threw up Sunday-and haven't thrown up in over 15 yrs.... bad flu bug... so bad, my family from back home got it- it started with my husband so I blame him... but, when I went to work Friday and Saturday feeling okay, nothing wrong, I infected ppl... because by Monday, there were a lot of call-offs... I had called off sunday since I threw up. If it's just a cold, nothing too serious, then no, I stay at work- I need the money.

Depends on how sick and if I've called out recently.

If I'm infectous, I try to stay home or if whatever is making me sick would be too distracting to me or my co-workers, I stay home.

I think people who come in looking like death are starved for attention or something. "Oh, look at John. He pulled himself in despite having a 102 temp and diarrhea."

Most bosses I've had would send someone like that home.

If it's something that can be "caught" or I'm vomiting every 10 min I'll stay home, otherwise I'll try to work, but often my boss makes me go home if I am sick.

If I'm contagious then I stay home, but if not then I drag myself into work because we are short staffed at the moment.
