Can anyone explain why Schrodinger has a zombie cat wandering around the Universe? I'm not certain about this. But what did he have against cats anyway!

Could've been any living thing at all - perhaps he just picked the cat at random as he saw one walk past while he was theorising.
Basically, everything is uncertain until you can prove it.
Terry Pratchett said in Wyrd Sisters that a cat has not two states within a closed box (alive or dead) but three: 'alive, dead and bloody furious'.

Budists have same theory give by Schrodinger (and were wrote centuries ago - but as an axiom) but nobody cares because it talk about claps and trees.
Just but a cat within and everybody will cares; PETA will invade quantics world, that old lady will scream and cry. PETShops will run excelente sequence of promotions and new food againts poisons will be sold everywhere....

so Mr. S. wanted to bring a different cute & cuddly pet into the equation, to illustrate the flaws in the Copenhagen school of thought and the seriousness of messing with quantum states.
Don't worry, when I last checked, the cat was still very much alive ...

It was just a story to make a point and doesn't really have anything to do with cats. I never did like the story much anyway, probably because I don't really agree with the point, which is that what we know determines reality, not the other way around. I think it IS the other way around; that reality determines what we know.

just leave the box closed and the cat will be fine
open the box and the unknown will become known and when it comes to Zombie cats I don't want to know

i would have left the box closed accept for the constant meowing
so first i sniffed the box it didnt smell dead and i wouldnt shut up so i opened it and now the cat dont make a sound and sure does stink in here
