Yes, and I know this won't make you feel any better, but she started at about the same age and is still doing it now at 21 months. I think he has finally figured out what sleep is, and he thinks he's missing out on something when he goes to sleep. My daughter just doesn't want to stop playing, even when she can barely keep her eyes open. I have tried warm baths, milk, stories, singing to her, you name it, and I practically have to pin her down to get her to sleep. She has even bitten me when I wouldn't let her go. And as for waiting for her to wear herself out...i found there were times she was still up at midnight. Bedtime is when I think it should be...not her.
Good Luck

Yes I agree with Ryan's mom.

Even though your son is most likely learning to test his boundaries, I would get a check up with his physician to rule out an ear infection and new teeth coming in.

If nothing is medically wrong with him, your doctor may be able to give you some tips on how to deal with his tantrums.

I have a 14 month old daughter and she was recently diagnosed with an ear infection. I had no idea, because for one she couldn't tell me, and two she didn't really have any signs. What prompted me to take her in was that I layed her down to go to bed, and I always give her a sippy with water in it... I left the room and about 15 minutes later I heard the most painful cry I had ever heard from her.

I knew she was getting some teeth in, so I gave her Orajel and eventually she went to sleep. The next day I took her to the doctor and sure enough it was the ear.

This is normal, unfortunately. Your son is probably hitting a developmental milestone like processing or something. If he's just learned to crawl or pull up he will want to be practising this new skill instead of wasting precious time by sleeping. My daughter is going through this right now too, it's very frustrating! My friend just went through this last month. All you can do right now, if you don't want to let him cry it out, it just be patient and wait for this to pass. Put him to bed later so he's more tired. Sooth him and stay by his side until he's able to settle. Sometimes holding them down GENTLY in their sleeping position helps them to settle. Good luck!

Maybe he is starting to get his 2 year molars. My son started getting his early, which suprised me because he was born almost 3 months early. Give him infant Tylenol and use Orajel swabs to get at the back of his gums to see if that helps.

I agree with littleluv, you have to leave them and let them cry it out. Eventually, they will realize you are not going to give in and will fall asleep. It took us some time too but it really works. You just have to be strong. Good luck!

he is just fighting sleep. do not come to him when he makes such a fuse. let him fall asleep and he should stop soon. he will see that no matter how much he screams you are not giving in. it works. good luck .
