Yes, or when they put the "Ms" in front of my first name. I'm in my late twenties, so I definately dont want to be anyones Ma'am just yet.

Not at all. I'm 25 but I live in the South and I know that alot of young people are conditioned to say Ma'am to anyone who is clearly not a child. They don't necessarily equate it to someone looking old, it's more about respect.
Also, its very cool that you call every young female Miss. I remember adults calling me Miss when I was little and I remember it made me feel like I was taken seriously. :)

Not if they are little children but if they are teenagers or older yes. I'm 33 and have a 5 year old and I am trying to teach him to say Ma'am and Sir.

I'm only 21, but I've been called Ma'am many times. I think it's a sign of respect, not anything denoting age.

Yes it does. I cannot stand when they do that, mainly because I'm 24 (I don't think it's old), & especially makes me mad when it's someone my age or older that does it because then it makes me get all self-conscious.
Guy friends of mine keep trying to make me realize that it is just used (supposedly) for all women, regardless of age, as a term of respect. After all, marines use the term all the time. I guess that makes me feel a little better.

No, since they're probably southern. The only non-Southern people who usually call me ma'am are 16 year old cashiers at the grocery store.

Yes, but I'm getting used to it. I visit my son on an Army Base every other weekend, and all soldiers address me as Ma'am, because they have to.......

Well, when you are NOT married (like me!), you are Retired Military (and don't like being referred to by a term that was used to designate the Military Spouse (which you are NOT), then ...
This is an INSULT to me -- and I don't like to be called "Ma'am", or "Mrs. _____" (I am NOT married!) or "Sweetie" or any other dimunitive way of talking to grown, adult women.

When I was 25 it did. Now I see it as a sign of respect. Also I'm close to 50, so I think it's okay.
