Well they do have every rights to be over-hyped like you Yankee fans are every single year. But your right, anything can happen, and any player can be bad for a season or so. Every single team would have to be a "Wait and See" type because in Baseball we play what? 162 games? Anythign can happen just like you said.

No, I dont think so.
For the first time in many years their front office has actually made some off season moves to advance them.
For any Cubs fan that is a sign that they might be serious about winning. There is always hope in Wrigleyville. And with talk that The Tribune may sell The Cubs, that only adds to their excitment.
If they sign Jason Schimdt then they would have every reason to get really excited.
On paper The Cubs could make the playoffs. Gee whiz, I'd love to see The Cubs & The Tigers in a WS.
How ironic would that be, especially now that Alan Trammel is The Cubbies bench coach?
(Trammell played 20 years on The Tigers and won MVP in the 84 WS. And he was the manager when The Tigers lost 119 games).

Big $$$ contracts and marquee names do not make a team a champion. Just ask the Yankees. Baseball is game. It is suppose to be fun - for players and fans. Only one team can be World Champions. It is good that Cubs fans are excited as they should be. It is a new year with new faces. Anything can happen. Winning comes down to pitching, clutch hitting and consistancy. If the Cubs feel like they can win, they have a chance. But if they go into the season thinking they will fail, they will. Its about attitude and making the most of opportunities.

I'm one of the guys that have been giving the Baby Bears Fans a little bit of grief, only because of the rivalry the Birds on the Bat have with them,it couldn't be any other way.But Honestly the Cubs have been making some good moves to improve their club. Getting Sweet Lou can only help them in the biggest way,he's a proven Winner.I still don't think that they can go from worst to first,it hasn't happened to many times.I know what your thinking that the NL Central is weak, well its not that way at all you got the Astro's,Reds,Cards,Cubs, and even Pittsburgh and Milwaukee can play some good baseball.I put it to you that the Central is the toughest Div in the NL.Plus the last 3 years the Central has represented the NL in the WS.So lets let them have their fun, then we'll kick their butt come 07 and REPEAT as WORLD CHAMPIONS

The Cubs made some good moves. However, it all comes down to team chemistry. Take a look at the Yankees, they have all the talent. But they don't work well together, hence the post season collapses. The Cubs have the talent, however it will be long after spring training before we know if this team is worthy of the hype.

As a die hard Cubs fan, I hope we are not over-hyping the season. The cubs do need starting pitching desperately in order to make a run. As far as the guy talking about the wind blowing out at Wrigley field, the wind only blows out about 30% of the time. Hopefully we can out hit the other teams those days.

no they are not overhyping their team. I am a die-hard cub fan and the team has done a total rehash from top to bottom. John mcdounugh has become the head of the organization, lou pinella has become the manager. IMO they have the most dangerous lineup in the national league. and speaking of the national league it will not take much to get into the playoffs this year. And the NL central is totally up for grabs.
besides they are not done, jason schmidt may come to the cubs

No. They are not. They made an offer to Jason Schmidt that's still on the table. If he decides to take it they may have a great pitching rotation depending upon the Health of Kerry Wood and Mark Prior. They now have a slugger in Soriano to go along with their other two sluggers, Ramirez and Lee. As we saw this season, anything can happen in a short series. Although I'm a Yankees fan, I wouldn't be unhappy if the Cubbies got to the World Series only to lose to the Yankees.

If you look at any baseball team you have to have two things to win. Pitching and timely hitting. They seem to have some hitters now, but they are still without a solid starting staff or bullpen. When the wind blows out in Wrigley the ball flies out of the park. Ask the Yankees how many shootouts you can win in baseball. Good pitching will always shut down good hitting. Think about it. You are a good hitter if you fail 70% of the time.

Lets not forget that the Cards only won 83 games last year and got into the playoffs. With Derek lee returning and Soriano arriving, anything is possible. They have a good pen and may sign Schmdit. Not to mention Wood and Priors, potential! If they get healthy.
