It shuts off for no reason about every 10-11 days. I have to turn it off in the back then turn it on for it to work again. What could be the problem. It's a LG and I had it almost 18 months.

Does it turn off or fail to work? If it turns off by itself, it is most likley a power supply problem. You need to look on the power supply to find out the watts it puts out. Then go to Best Buy or another Computer outlet and get another power supply. It should cost you no more than $50-60 bucks. You don't need a Computer Tech to change it out for you. If you feel confident enough. Remember what power connectors go to what, unscrew, change out and replug.

If your computer stops working but you can still see the screen you may have a memory problem. Either you need more or you may need to clean your memory pins which are located on the memory sticks (thier gold colored).

I am shying away from the thought of it being a heat problem, because I think if you had a bad CPU FAN or power supply fan, then it would overheat faster than 10-11 days. I agree with the above that you should examine the components inside for any damaged capacitors and such. Look for dark brown spot on the solder points. Aside from that, check for viruses. If you can not determine any problems, consider doing a system restore back to before this started happening.

Well, my first instinct would be that it could be the Power Supply. There are really a number of things that could cause the problem. Especially when you say that you have to turn it off at the back of the unit before you are able to power it up again. Power Supplies, depending on age, come with a thermal protection device (among others) that will shut itself off if it reaches a critical temp. Some even require to remove the AC power cord before it will reset because it latches in the "off" position. They are relatively easy to replace and I would try that first. Hope this helps....

You have a pretty bad virus. Just do a virus scan and erase any Virus, trojan, or Potentially Unwanted Program that could come up in the scan and your computer should work fine.

if no warning or error message is displayed, then check your power settings in control panel. Could be like it is going into power save mode (stand by)
