It's a hilarious show- the above descriptions are quite good. This particular show is also known as "Fooly Cooly" here in the states, and "Furi Kuri" in Japan.

There is no short way to explain it.
Haruhara Haruko (or Raheru as is later found out) is trying to get Atomosk's power. He has the power to steal entire star systems with his NO. Atomosk has been imprisoned on earth on a medical mechanica plant and the only way to get atomosk out is with Takkun's (mamimi's pet name for Nouta (it was his brothers name)) Nouta also has NO, or the distinct functions of the left and right parts of the brain that causes a portal through which things can be pulled through. Haruko hits him with her vespa scooter and thus starts the story.

After a while, a red robot and a giant hand come out and battle each other. The robot contains Atomosk. after Atomosk wins, Haruko hits the back of the robot's head with her Rickenbacker bass (they use basses and guitars as weapons and cats as interstellar communication devises) and the robot turns blue. a few episodes later, under very weird circumstances, Mamimi names him Canti, and whenever it swallows Nouta, it becomes Atomosk again.

After several confusing plot points and another giant hand later, Canti becomes Atomosk and stops medical mechanica from iorning out the wrinkels in all of humanity's brains. and then Nouta absorbs Atomosk's power and then he and Haruko fight. Atomosk gets away with his power after Nouta (a grade school boy) confesses his love for Haruko (a 19 or 20-something). and then haruko leaves.

There's no way to really cut it down into a paragraph, so I'll give you the absolute basics.

This kid, Naota, runs into (or rather, gets run over by) this hot girl, Haruko. Naota gets a bump on his head, and Haruko (who moves in with him and shares a room with him) can pull big robot/monsters out of it to fight other robot/monsters which seem to be showing up lately.

There's also the fact that Haruko's an alien, Naota can't shake her older brother's girlfriend's affections, Haruko's partner is a flying robot television, and so much more.

It's a coming of age story.
