When I was in the 9th grade (8 years ago, do the math) my best friend through elementary school and middle school came out to me after she moved away. I reacted completely and totally wrong, was judgemental, even threw religion in her face, and my Dad (without my permission) went to her house and told her mom. I know, REALLY BAD). I feel really bad and have expressed this to her. We now live about 4 hours away but I've found her again through a mutual friend who got married this fall, and I saw her at the wedding. Things were okay at the wedding, but I've asked her to be my friend on myspace, sent her 2 messages and she's not replied to any of them or accepted the frienship. I realize that I really hurt her, and reacted in the worst way possible to her coming out, but how do I go about apologizing for something so sensitive and regaining her friendship even though we're so far away, and it was so long ago?

My aim is to become friends again, nothing more.

it may not be possible some people are not able to let things that hurt them go. given your age at the time and your understanding of the world then i can see how it happened. all you can do is explain that you didn't know better at the time and ask for forgiveness. after that it's all up to her she may forgive you she may not. but at least in your heart you will know that you tried to fix the problem and do the right thing

I'd send her a realllllllly long appology letter explaining how you feel now & that you realise you reacted wrongly then.

Try to avoid excessively explaining your actions - as much as you may wish to do this to alliviate your guilt, it may look like you're not accepting that you did something wrong.

Good luck. I hope things can be okay between you.
