My house makes this weird sound a few times a day. First, it will make a sound like the furnace is going on (but its not actually the furnace) then it sounds like pipes are rattling, then 3-4 big thumping sounds. I cant even find where the noise is actually coming from. Its not the furnace room. I think it has something to do with the pipes. My pipes were clogged before, so I used drano, and the pipes were clear and the noise went away. now, the pipes are still clear but the noise is back. any suggestions?

I've had the same problem and from what you've described, it sounds like you have air trapped in your water pipes. Rather than explain in detail how to solve your problem, I found a website that will tell you what needs to be done;

GOOD LUCK!

The "ghost" of the pipes. Not really. We were getting a "thumping" sound at a certain time of day. At a curtain time the delivery truck for the "Moose Lodge" run over a spacer in the road to make the turn into the lodge, although a half mile away, it was the way he hit that spacer it "Thumped"
I don't know if this helps but you can get unusual noises in the home.
