Yes, that's completely normal. It happens to me every period, and I'm nursing a 21 month old. I find that using Lansinoh lanolin between feedings helps a lot. I've also used cal/mag supplements to ease the pain and boost the supply drop that happens sometimes during my period. Ibuprofen or Tylenol can help, too, and both are safe to take while nursing. The link that DietC posted is an excellent. It's the one I was going to post as well. I'd give it a read.

Completely and perfectly normal; in the same way that your fluctuating hormones can cause your breasts to swell, and feel tender, your nipples can also feel more sensitive, and even sore. Different women have different reactions during the menstrual cycle, so even though you are experiencing this, and some of your friends may not be, it is still very normal.
