No. The $2 tip is included in the $72.

Each paid $24 INCLUDING TIP. $24*3 = $72 = $70 (meal) + $2 (tip). Add 3 * $1 they got back and we get the total of $75. There is no extra coin.

almost all the above answers are right (except brmwk's) but here's another way to look at it-
75 is the amount they had in total, right?
so,
75 is equal to,

+
+
which is equal to 70 + 2 + 3
=72 + 3 (and not 72 + 2)***

***there's the mistake and thats where the one coin is.

Easy. They paid 72 and the money went to the bill (70) and the Barrer (2).

Each player paid $24. Total = $72. That is $70 for the bill, plus $2 for the tip. Cheap tippers!

It's actually minus the 2 tip. So you get 24*3-2=70, which is the amount they paid:
Paid: 25 per person minus 1 (change return) = 24;
Total cost of meal: 70;
Tip: 2;
25*3-3*1-2=70.

The problem is in the way you explain it.

75 total
-3 (1 back to each eater)
-2 (tip)

equals - 70

70/3 is not 24.. its 23.33333333333333.......

So... 23.33333 (what each paid) x3 = just shy of 70.. .then you take the 2 coin tip and 3 coins handed back for a total of 75.

The other coin isn't missing unless you use the wrong numbers to solve the puzzle.

the bill is 70rps (of three people), they will pay 75 rps .
extra money they will pay is 5rps.
in the 5rps the barrer will keep 2 for him and returns the remaining 3rps to each one(one rupeee)

hey.. theres no coin missing.. total paid by customers=24*3=72
total recvd by organisation(hotelier+waiter)=70+2=72
u r not supposed to add those 2 bucks to 72.. u should add'em to 70 .. hence 70+2=24*3 .. nice wording by the way .. thats a good one .. kip it up n u r sure to make yer math-tutor mad
