There are many Flash and Java games that are free. But if you are desperate, try your luck at Tribes. It's free to download and free to play. I play it, and after 8 years it's still fun.

make sure you download DAP (a download accelerator) first, then use it for subsequent game downloads. it will speed things up a lot (often 7-8x faster).
