My 8 year old son had to give a 5 minute oral book report and he wanted to practice while he gave it to me. It was only a 5 minute report, but my son did not mispronounce any words, make up any words, or use any words incorrectly. In the background I had the news on and they were showing clips of a press conference Bush had a few weeks ago. It was at that moment I realized that my son has surpassed the President of the United States in his public speaking skills.

I am a Democrat, a true Democrats in a liberal, heavily Democrat state and I wish we could find something else to critcize Bush about other than his pattern of speech. We like to think we are all, us Dems, so vastly superior in intellect than George Bush. He is the President and I am not sure what message it sends to kids when we display such hatred for a public official. I noticed this toward Bill Clinton after he did what he did but then it was the right wing doing it and we all hated that, now we do it. People have different speech patterns and yet may still be successful. I don't think we know if Bush has been a good President yet that will be for history to tell us. Realilty is that the people of the nation elected him twice and my party put up only wacky opposition. Tim Russet mentioned on his show that the new Democratic majority in the Congress is really not what we think it is because many of the new Dems are moderates and moderate to right candidates who took their opponents votes away by being better at what the country is looking for today. We did not have a liberal upsurge in the country, we just have taken the Dem party back to the middle. Watch us mess up the Presidential campaign next year with some obscure, special interest group candidate who appeals to whatever small group controls our party. My state is 6 to 1 Dem, but voted for Bush both times. We are Dems, the national party may not be. So hang on, we may get another President that you can feel superior too.

There are actually some people out there who claim Dubya intentionally speaks this way to make people think he is a "common man" just like them. If this is really all an act - then he deserves the Oscar! If he is a reflection of the average American - then our country's literacy rate is on the downhill slide
