Keep the word EVENTUALLY in mind. Meaning... in the future... like 25 years from now.

Eventually, the WORLD should try to control birthrates. Many of the issues the world faces, from poverty to global warming, are influenced by the fact that the human population is growing at an out-of-control rate. In 1950 there were 2.5 billion people on the planet, now there are 6.5 billion.

Immigration in the USA is an offshoot of the population explosion. Solve one, and you solve the other.

I'm not saying we will actually control population. The Chinese experiment failed, and our religious organizations will never allow it. But we should think about.

BTW: My wife and I opted not to have children...

The US is one of the last countries that would have to, with plenty of farming and a birth rate that is close to the replacement level. Even a country like China that thinks it has to will have trouble enforcing it. But there will be a problem with food and energy eventually if the population keeps doubling. Not finding space for the people, opponents of population control will point out you can fit a lot of people in a small space, by building upwards like Asian cities. Probably the only thing non-draconian enough for the US to try would be decreasing tax deductions and welfare benefits for each additional child.

I can only think of the women/teenage girls who continue to have babies and are supported by our government through our tax paying dollars. I think the government should stop giving them more money every time they give birth to another child.

I don't know think they could actually stop them from having more, but they could limit the amount of money they dish out. Perhaps this would make them stop having more kids.

I think we do have a population problem in some areas. But it is not Americans that are causing this, but the immigrants.

I think the government should step in. How? create new laws I suppose. Do I see it happening? No. Sad, huh?

No. Overpopulation is not a problem. We don't even use half of the arable land in the world for farming, and it's been observed that population growth in industrialized nations eventually neutralizes. The population growth in the world will steady long before we run out of food sources.

I think thats an awful idea. Who would get to decide who got to have children or not, the government?
Would people with meager means automatically be denied the right to a family? Theres no freedom in that and i wouldnt want to be part of a society that regulated such things.
It didnt work too well in China either. They ended up being very lopsided in ratio of females to males.

here is something interesting for you overpopulation nuts out there.

You can fit 6 billion people inside the entire city limits of Mobile, Alabama. It would be a sardine like fit, but possible. Second, we in the USA grow enough food to provide 2 meals a day for every person on the planet. Of course, it would be boring like potatoes, corn, rice, wheat, barley, and squash, but still, we can feed the world.

Desalination plants combined with natural water sources can provide for an incalculable amount of people, and agriculture needs.

Greed, not overpopulation, is the problem with resources not reaching those in need. Overpopulation as a problem is a myth that does not stand to facts, but relies on gullibility, ignorance, and pseudo science to strive.

It's not the birthrate, it's the immagration that's causing overcrowding. We hould continue to birthrate of those who already live here and maintain the proper amount of population in the next generation so they can be in the working class when Mom, Dad, & the other baby boomers retire.

I don't think so! they are giving away 50 000 free passports every year for people from other countries to come, I think thats a good place to start controlling!

PS: I'm not an American & not living in the US.

No, population isn't really a problem in United States, although sometimes the parents aren't ready to support their kids.

But that would be an anathema to what America stands for, especially with a push for less government intrusion in one's life
