If anyone knows, that would be great. The diamond is 5.36 mm, VS2, and a very light champagne (I have only seen it online, but it looks beautiful, the jeweler is very reputable and his communication has been great). Thanks!

I meant size – as in how does it "face up" in terms of being big or small on the hand, and I was hoping that someone with a half carat diamond solitaire could offer their experience. Perhaps I should have been more specific. I prefer champagne diamonds over white, and this particular diamond is a beautiful pink champagne from the argyle mines of Australia (I was referred to him by my Australian friend, and I live in the States). I wear a size 7, and I have slender fingers.

Forgot to add…Welches, thank you SO much, I think you've given me the answer I need. The diamond is a c-1 champagne, and although they're not everyone's cuppa, I absolutely love champagne diamonds, and have been looking around for the perfect one with that particular pink hue. A one carat is too showy for me, and I've only ever had a .30ct. center, so I just needed some perspective. Take care, everyone, and thank you so much ;o)

I'm not sure I understand what you are asking.
The flat surface faces up in a ring, the bottom point faces down.
It won't matter how you put the ring on, since it's round it will look the same either way.
Then depending on your finger size, a .55CT, 5.36mm stone may look big, small, or just the right size. For someone like me with smaller hands, it's a great size for a stone. Anything bigger than 1CT overpowers my hands, and looks gaudy.
A true champagne diamond is considered a fancy color, not on the same grading scale as white diamonds. If it's just a white diamond with strong yellow color, then it's not as high quality. Since you say the seller is one you trust, it probably is a champagne and not a poorly colored white.
And since champagne isn't white, it won't look exactly the same against your skin tone. If you have warm undertones, a champagne diamond can be very flattering to your skin tone.

I don't know if I answered your question, but I hope I helped some :-)

As for your main question, .55 is not all that big especially depending on the cut. round will look bigger square may look smaller. HOWEVER, it all depends how big your fingers are. Only you can judge whats too big or small for your liking. Aside from that, my word of advice would be never to buy a stone without seeing it in person. If you are in the market for a diamond find an independent jeweler willing to explain the basics to you. Learn how to use a loop, you can have 2 stones with the identical "ratings" (i.e. size, cut, clarity, color) and they can look completely different. As for the stone looking like a champagne color..........well thats not good, unless the price is a steal and you don't care too much about the quality of the stone. I found diamond shopping to be a lot of fun once I learned what to look for. Good luck.

I don't understand your question. It's round, so yes it does face up, and since it's round it can go in any other direction. Sounds like a nice stone though.
