Helicoils will fix stripped threads as good as new. A kit with the tap, helicoils, and installation tool will cost you about 25.00. They work great for stripped head bolts, and can save a lot of money in repairs. A machine shop can put them in for you, but it is pretty easy to do it yourself.

For the most part yes, but it really depends on how deep the hole is, example if you wanted to repair the threads on an aluminum oil pan drain plug..NO do not use a helicoil use a TimeSert. If you need to repair the threads for a headbolt, then yes a helicoil works well.
