Catnip? A little pole toy with a feather on the end? My cats love those mylar balls, that are crinkly and metallic. Or, on a low budget, try a bottle cap.
How cranky?
I had a cranky kitty that I adopted from the humane society four years ago. She had been abused until she was six months old, when I got her. She clawed me to death for a solid year, and my boyfriend wanted to give her back, but I stuck with her. Now, three years after all the clawing stopped, she's the best kitty in the world, she's the lap cat I've always wanted.
Just keep giving the cat love! And if you keep being nice to the cat, they'll be nice to you, and you won't be cranky either. :)

Sometimes a cranky p u s s y cat needs to let some blood with it's claws consider it a love claw,or love bite.

Some cat nip for the kitty and some personal stimulation for you. You can take that anyway you like. Emotional or physical.

most anything makes kittys laugh, except i find that they dont like it when you are trying to make a milkshake out of them :)
