My Betta jumped out of the tank the other day...thank you all who responded. She had some fuzz coming off her body after I put her back in the tank when I found her on the counter. I now notice that the upper part of the body, near the fin, has a reddish patch, like it is a bit raw. I that expected? Is there a suitable medication for this? Thank you for your advice.

I would suggest getting Betta fix...It is all natural and cures infections..Bettas are very fragile and an infection can be brought on by something as simple as netting..The infection could make their eyes start to pop out..Best to get it treated right away..You can also do a salt dip every day while doing the treatment..1 teaspoon per gallon let is disolve and let the betta swim for a few minutes and then return them to the medicated tank..It worked for one that I rescued from a chiclid tank..Good Luck with the baby..:o)

Could it be cuts or scrapes? If she took a fall, she might have banged herself against something produing.

The redness sounds like a bacteria infection, but it could be many things. Treat the water with Maracyn-2. You can also add a little salt to the water (just a pinch if its 1gallon - be sure to dissolve the salt in a cup of her water before pooring it in - crystalized salt will burn her gills)

Unless she is in a cycled fish tank, make sure you frequently change the water. If the ammonia builds up when she is injured, it would be even worse than if it built up and she were healthy. Replace 50% of the water every day, make sure to use dechlor. Stress coat is good to use because it put a coat of protective slime on the fish.

In normal times, you should be replacing 80% of the water every few days. Unless she's in a fishtank wtih a filter, in which case, 30% weekly.
