Wolverine. Because he is a member of the group, but still independent. Tough but caring, and a real bear to tangle with.

If you mean which X-Men's powers would I like to have, then it's a toss-up between Logan, and a former "New Mutant" character named Cypher.
I would want Wolverine's healing factor for the simplest of reasons: To get rip-roaring drunk and not have any after-effects.
Now, as for the character Cypher, not many might know about him. He had the technically laughable ability to understand any langauge, as long as it could be read, he could understand, and translate it. I would love to be able to do that.

Gambit, hands down. That cajun has always been my favorite. Using cards as explosives, going out with Rogue, defeating other versions of himself like New Sun, and now that he's Death, the horseman of Apocalypse, how can you not pick this fella? And he was The Witness who saw Onslaught destroy the X-Men. Did I also mention that his game is strong in the sense of getting chicks? (Rogue, Donna Bella, Storm)

NIGHTcrawler!!! teleporting is cool... no matter how strong your opponent is, you could probably teleport him anywhere in the world where he could no longer be quite functional or sane...
