Worked as an electronics tech to pay my way through trade school to be an electrician.
Then worked as an electrician to pay my way through school to get a computer science major.
Then worked doing some of each for 18 years and recently got into cooking and just became a Sous chef.
I'm not sure what I want to do now, I've had an offer to cook on a tugboat and also to work for a new electrical company. Both pay very well. I think I've decided to work for the electrical company and move into the country and settle down.
There is a wealthy elderly lady that said I could live in her 11 bedroom house for free, since she is alone she might be looking for someone to give it to when she dies.

It's really depressing, but I still don't know and I am in my 30s. After High School I went to college, then I got a master's degree, then I did three years of a Ph.D. but I hated it so much that I dropped out and ran away to a big city where I had trouble getting a job because all I had studied were academic subjects that don't give you any job skills. But then after a year of working crappy jobs I met the CEO of an internet company who was impressed with my educational background and she hired me for advertising sales, which I have done ever since because I am not sure what else I can do to support myself. Meanwhile what I really want to be doing is writing and painting, and also restoring historical houses. But those don't pay the bills, so I am saving my money till I can find some way to break into the historic preservation field and buy my own historic house. Of course I could also write and paint in my "spare" time but I am always so tired and burnt out that all I do is watch tv and answer questions on Yahoo!

After high school, I went to college and then dropped out. I went back a year later and dropped out again..... I got a job, an apartment...
There are so many people out there with college degrees who don't have anything but a piece of paper to show for all their work and money spent....
It all depends on what you want, how goal-oriented you are, whether you really want more schooling after high school, etc.
And it ultimately depends on what you feel is god's will for your life. He has a plan and a purpose for each of us - He takes people down different paths - and it is wise to desire his will above all and to follow Him.
I would rather be a ditch-digger and know that I am doing what god wants rather than be some big executive and be miserable and frustrated.
God bless!!

I began working and earning money to support myself while I gained a college education at a fraction of the cost through personal study. I now have a management position with my own office and earn over $60,000 per year in the state of Georgia plus full benefits. I'm home everyday at the same time that neighborhood kids are getting off of the school bus. I guess you could say that I became a slave just like most people, the important thing to remember is to do something that you enjoy and that doesn't consume you. Work to live, don't live to work.

At that time I had seen so many good older friends who went to college only to find little work, thus I began small at first my own business, and investments.
Though I still play at investments,I retired at 39,some 13 years ago.
Those older friends eventually took lowly jobs some killed themselves, others became involved in illegal matters, and others simply are not making what they Iam sure expected a 4 year or more degree to provide for them, and they are still working.

It took me 7 wasted years of college, thousands of dollars wasted on beer and partying, got a degree and still have no idea what I want to do.
