Because, we've begun to question societies institutions! Obviously there is something about marriage that was making people unhappy. There's a reason it's been thrown out. We're seeking something probably a better tommorow.
Also, it's not needed as much. Closeness of extended family is pretty much non-existant. Children grow up and leave their parents to live their own lives. We live in industrialised metropolises as anonymous faces in a crowd. We don't need extended family and in-laws to help us out when things go bad anymore besides, they probably won't be there! We're individuals working for corporations instead of cogs in a machine.

EASY. You were required to be hitched in the old days. You were required to stay with someone you didn't love, forever. The world has become more tolerant and realistic. "Back in the day" if you were pregnant and unmarried you were a slut and people looked down upon you. Now we know that marriage isn't always the answer to a pregnancy, etc. Marriage is a piece of paper, a binding agreement between two people. You can look each other in the eye and promise forever and actually spend your lives together without getting the government involved with paperwork. Marriage is an old fashioned idea of permitting two people to "be together" without it being shameful. What's shameful about two people loving each other? Not to mention some religions, like Catholicism deny divorce as an option, so once you are married you are stuck forever, regardless of whether or not you are happy.

It is no less important, only given less respect. Our present society focuses and nurtures the "me-me" concept which is in direct conflict.
Marriage is all about commitment and respect. About two people working together, (through good and bad) to make a quality life for themselves and any children they may have. It's about supporting each other above individual needs. It's a lifetime commitment, not a "until something better comes along" one.
And old quote sums it up prettty well: "People wouldn't get divorced for trivial reasons if they didn't get married because of them."
Not to say there are not valid reasons for divorce: abuse is a definite reason! But for the most part, it's become too easy to not have to be responsible in our societies.

Marriage is no longer the sociatal contract it once was. The business end of the deal: I'll provide the income, you clean house and raise children- is no longer valid in most families because the labor isn't split along clear cut gender lines anymore. Also, there isn't the same stigma against premarital sex and children out of wedlock. So, you eliminate most of the practical reasons for marriage, and you're left with love and commitment as the only truly valid reasons for people to remain married. Let's face it, many people aren't going to put enough effort into a marriage to keep the feelings from fading, which leads to the astronomical divorce rate.

My Atheist boyfriend says it isn't natural. From a scientific standpoint, it isn't. The sex part, anyway. Marriage is just a legal bond and is a joke these days. Let them marry, they are just going to get divorced like so many in the hetero world. No difference, really.

Because women have more freedom. When they depended upon marriage for financial support, and often their identites, there were few choices but marriage. Also, divorce was much more of a stigma.
Thirty years ago women were stay at home moms, teachers, nurses, and secretaries. Now you can be anything and earn whatever money you have the potential for. Why would you stay in a bad marriage if you can support yourself and your children?

Just like teenage pregnancy, there is no societal influence to stay married anymore, People just accept things. "Oh, you want o bring your girlfriend to the party instead of your wife. Sure. It's a free society." Until society truly suffers from this lack of consideration and extremmism, all will suffer, particularly the children. Also, the babyboomers raised a pitiful bunch of men. Well, they aren't men, really. Big babies.

Decay in morals and values of society. The movement away from Christ. The world has become politically correct, it says aanything goes and we should accpet anything and everything. That is just yet another tactic of Satan, the antichrist. We are living in end times and Satan is using any tactic he can to win souls. He is attacking the basic unit, the family. We need to be God correct not politically correct. Live according to Gods way. One by one we can change the world, one person at a time.
