I have been thinking about something and wanted to ask you all what you think. First of all...I am not asking this to cause havok on answers...just a valid honest question.
Why are there Black award show...
Lation award shows....
You get where I am going with this...
Why is that not considered racist, but if there were a white american award show...that would cause a huge outrage.
Please don't call me a racist or a bigot...I am just wondering how that can not be construde as racist.

That's a good point. I know that if there was a "white" show there would be havok just like you said. I'm not at all racist, but it does make you wonder.

There are also special awards for women, the young, and the old as well as religious and ethnic groups. Minority groups, that are trying to gain power in the system, have special awards to give their members recognition and support that is hard for them to get in mainstream society. It is use as path to inclusion not exclusion. If the majority group which holds the power had such an award it would be for exclusion, since they are already have what everyone else is trying to gain.

White males have a history of excluding others from eligibility for honors and privilege. When I applied to college Harvard did not admit women and had a quota (maximum not minimum like today) on Jews and blacks and in an earlier time Catholics. You saw only male newscasters and women were bared from the national press club. There were countless honor bestowing clubs and organizations that only allowed white males members. The remnants of this world are still around us, and white non Latino males still control most of the important positions. When the power is distributed equally, no one will object to awards for white males, but until then it looks like trying to restore the "Good old days" .
