Your answer is correct
5x + 50 = 168
5x + 50 - 50 = 168 - 50
5x = 118
5x/5 = 118/5
x = 23 3/5
x = 23.6
The answer is x = 23.6
Insert the x value into the equatiion
- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -
5x + 50 = 169
5(23.6) + 50 = 168
118 + 50 = 168
168 = 168

This is exactly the way to solve the equation. Just try to avoid rewriting obvious steps like 5x + 0 = 118 and 5x = 118

The way you did it is correct and shows exactly what's happening. However, once you learn this, a quicker way is to move the 50 to the other side and change the sign. In most cases you can do two steps in one this way (move the 50 and subtract it from the 168 and write down the answer). If you do a lot of calculating, like an engineer for example, you don't want to be writing down all the obvious steps all day.

why don't you use a harder equation , you may then get some meaningful answers
try this or your own
half of (5x + 50 + x*x) + 3x -77 -x/4 = x^2 + 1

spot on. I like to get the numbers out of the way and simplified as soon as possible, then do the letters.
