The bag attached behind their uniform (normal suit, to be exact) is a primary life support system, a system that functioning as follow:
* regulating suit pressure
* providing breathable oxygen
* cooling and recirculating oxygen and water through the Liquid Cooling and Ventilation Garment, or LCVG.
* removing carbon dioxide, humidity, odors and contaminants from breathing oxygen
* providing communications for the suit occupant
* sensing and reporting suit parameters

MS originally created to work at space (S from SUIT is Space). So when a MS pilot pilots a mobile suit, usually they wear normal suit. Normal suit is clothes and equipment that enable human to live at extreme condition (like space).

Current normal suit is so big (the one our astronauts wear) that it's impossible to wear it and cramped in a MS cockpit, luckily, it seems that future normal suit is just like normal racing suit.

The only pilot I know that not wearing normal suit is Char Aznable (but Lalah, his GF against it and insist Char must wear normal suit when piloting a MS, and he do). Btw, Char is one of main character (the bad guy, but still the main bad guy) from original Gundam.

And for the logo, try visiting websites below (it has many links to other websites and provide you with lots of good and detailed information, for FREE), sorry can't help you much in searching the logo.

I think it contains oxygen and other important things needed by the body as well as sensors to tell whether the pilot is still alive. Maybe their purpose works the same way as the space suits worn by astronauts today.

see this link for the Orb logo. http://members.lycos.nl/anmsg/anorb.png

I think it's most likely a sort of emergency kit or for ZAFT, it's more like a jetpack combined with an emergency kit.
