any easy way to memorize/remember this?

yup.. ummm... i always do d=x, r=y if you put both groups in alphabetical order (domain, range) (x-axis [left to right], y-axis [up n down]) they kinda match up. 1st in one group is 1st in other group n so on

domain is the value of the independent variable and so x in most of the cases
range is the corresponding values of the dependent variable or the function and so in most of the cases y

This isn't great, but it works:
First, you are right.

Domain comes before range alphabetically
x comes before y (on an x-y graph) alphabetically

that's rite..... domains are the x-axis and the range is the y-axis.
