I have an LT1 motor, Camaro spec, with a high volume oil pump. What should the oil pressure run at when warm? I have about 10-12 pounds at 900RPM (idle). When it gets to 800RPM, such as at a stop light with the car in drive and the brake on, the pressure drops below 10 pounds, to about 6-7. It was just rebuilt, but during the first 1000 miles it would maintain an oil pressure of about 18 pounds at 900RPM.

Is this normal?

I have read some of the responces on here......they are misinformed when it comes to THIS engine...email me and i will send you the spec. sheet right out of GM's service information.
I attach a link to it but it is password protected, you can't access and cut and paste won't work on this site(only text).

Whoa stop driving you need a min of 15 psi norm is 20-50 or a little more if the engine was just rebuilt the bearings are not bad but a common mistake with replacing the oil pump (you said you had a high out put) is that the distance between the the pickup screen and the oil pan is Wrong! Its a fine balance to far away not enough pressure if its to close not so much to pressure as much as not enough oil to give proper lubrication. At any rate you need to pull your engine again you don't have enough room to drop the pan and do adjustments in car. Sorry good luck!

As the oil wears the viscosity gets thiner. The static oil pressure will decrease somewhat dureing this time. Try changing the oil, you should see an increse in the pressure. And when things are rebuilt they tend to have closer tolerances which boosts performance for awhile untill the parts break-in and operate at a normal level.

no that is very low even for a older engine . before you condemn the engine hook up a manual Gage and verify what the oil pressure really is

This is NOT normal. Take it back where you had it built! Serious engine damage may result!
