My 5 month old son has Acid Reflux. When the doctor put him on the Zantac he told me I could use Gaviscon instead of the Zantac. If the Zantac did not work that they were basically the same thing just one cost less. He also said if I could find it that Gaviscon makes an infant Gaviscon. Could someone please tell me where I could purchase this at? PLEASE!!! SERIOUS ANSWERS ONLY!!!

To the person who answered-- why does he have acid reflux? He has acid reflux because his stomach valve doesn't close all the way after he eats and everthing comes back up. He has had an upper GI and other test to prove his condition.

If your doctor is telling you to get infant gaviscon then you should get it on prescription and not have to pay for it. Most chemists stock it and i don't think its actually available without prescription. It comes in sachets that you put into baby's milk. But again this is something you doctor should be telling you. or talk to a pharmacist. hope this helps.

I honestly have never seen infant Gaviscon. Your best bet would be to talk with your pharmacist and if they don't carry it, maybe they could order it for you. As for the dosage, I would call your doctor and ask him. If you can't find the Gaviscon, maybe he could give you info for the dosage of the adult version. Don't try to dose it yourself because too much may cause diarrhea.

Never heard of infant gaviscon. Try asking the pharmacist in your local pharmacy what they suggest. If you look on the bottle it will tell you but from my fialing memory im sure its not recommended at that age

While I have never seen infant Gaviscon, I would not be surprised if they make it. If you cannot find it, call the doctors office back. I'm sure they could help you find it.

Don't worry most babies have acid reflux... that is why they spit-up!

In an ideal world all babies will be milk-fed only until 6 months, then small amounts of solids will be introduced for practice and fun whilst said baby continues to take in plenty of milk. But there are a lot of babies who don't like milk. My daughter was the same and, with the support of our doctor and health visitor, we too had to wean early. All fluids count, including fluid used in cooking. Milk added to food also counts. You can buy dried baby yogurt that I gave to my daughter every day- I made it up with infant formula for the additional nutrition. Try a straw, he may enjoy it. But- and this is the important thing- if he's gaining weight and you get a lot of wet nappies then he's doing well x

I have never seen Gaviscon for Infants. If they make it, your local pharmacist should be able to help you determine dosage and help you locate it.

Did a little research after I posted that...take a look here:

Geez I wouldnt be giving my baby either - go to another doctor ,why would a 5 mth old have acid reflex when thats usually caused by diet in adults. Reflux in babies is completely different. Please see another doctor.
