I've a new DVD/VCR and a new TV with Freeview. I can find the five terrestrial channels on the DVD/VCR but not the Freeview channels. Auto and Manual Set-up don't find them. Should I be able to tune it in and, if so, how?

The DVD/VCR needs to be able to see a signal coming from the TV in order to be able to record your Freeview channels from the tuner in your TV.
One of the scart sockets on your TV should be able to provide the signal you need for this, but you will have to set your new DVD/VCR to one of it's 'line in' or external inputs on the menu for the recorder to see the signal from the TV.
I know this may sound complicated but once you have figured it out it's not too difficult.
Somewhere on the menu of your DVD/VCR recorder you should be able to select 'line in' or external - it may have two or three of these - on Sony's it's line 3, but I can't speak for other makes as it varies. If you've then got the scart connector in the right socket on the TV it will all fall into place.
Remember, of course, the recorder will only be able to record if the TV is on, and it will only be able to record the channel you are watching. There should be a timer function on the TV to set a recording while you are away.

You should have a button on the recorder remote control for AV. Press this and it records the channel that is showing on the Freeview system. The only thing is if you change channels, it will record the one you are watching. To change back to the terrestial channels, change from AV on the TV remote. This only works if you have a separate Freeview box. If not, you need a digital recorder.

if the TV has built in freeview the freeview channels wont be individually listed on your DVD/VCR. you need to tune your DVD/VCR to say channel 6 for the freeview.

You can't, the VCR would need a Freeview tuner, I think.

check for a scart setting i had the same problem once i changed from tv setting to scart they all came up hope that helps
