Is this for final year thesis of an undergraduate degree? There should be a thesis topic list available from the university. If not, think about what subjects you enjoyed from your degree, and approach the lecturers/tutors of those subjects and ask what they can suggest. Without me knowing what are your areas of interest and what you are good at, it is hard for me to recommend something specific. Another option is to do a thesis in collaboration with the industry (i.e. within a company), but generally this results in some conflict... normally the company wants the intellectual property and does not like the student to expose too much in their thesis write-up. So, more information is needed.

How about something using a DSP. You can usually pick up a demo kit cheaply or you might even get TI or some other company to give you one for free. You could do an adaptive filter, a modem, modulator, demodulator or just about anything. It's just putting some hardware together and writing a little bit of code once you come up with the equations for whatever function you want to do..

from experience, something you are interested in is good, but dont get too involved wasting your time in the things you are interested in.

always remember your object is to present a thesis with a start middle and an end. Looking back I would probably have this mapped out from the start and work towards filling in the gaps.
