If you stopped at the "should scotland get independence?" bit, this would be quite an interesting question, but unfortunately you didn't and brought down the intellectual level of the question with it.

Personally, I feel Scottish independence would not be useful. In a world where travelling to the other side takes less than a day, dividing up the world into smaller and smaller countries seems ridiculous, especially with the European Union. However, I'm all in favour of devolution of power, since some decisions are much better made at a more local level than a national level, such as the construction of hospitals etc. Economically, however, independence would probably have adverse effects, (although if taking Ireland as an example, which has a smaller population, the opposite might be true).

Scotland should not get independence. Not because of the effect on the Scots but help prop up the English. The oil revenues recieved from the North Sea have been squandered helping to support the economy of the whole of the British economy for the last thirty years. As this oil runs out it will be renewable energy that the Scots can harness (wind, wave, and hydro power) that will need to be "exported" to the rest of the UK to keep you all warm and your lights on. If the UK government had followed the example of the Norwegain government and invested the revenues from the oil we would ALL be better off. (Who's stupid now?)

Thousands of Scots soldiers and regiments have fought and died to help protect the freedom of all in the UK and for other more spurious reasons such as "weapons of mass destruction" following the lead of the mighty English. (Who are the ones that f***** that up?)

The Scots have contributed greatly to the UK over the years with television, tarmacadam, pnematic tyres, the telephone and the Bank of England as just a few examples.

The Scots don't hate the British, we resent the ignorance of the English over our country. Consistantly we are overlooked and ignored by the "British" media and are forced to listen how wonderfull all your sportsmen are. Take Andy Murray the great "British" tennis prospect, but only a few years ago he was "a young Scottish" tennis player. The English raped, killed and pillaged Scotland without provacation for hundreds of years, why do the "British" (English) hate us so much?

whoa, i thought this kind of hatred was a thing of the past; as a descendant of Scots, Irish, English and Welsh folks, I find this absolutely ridiculous. I thought Scotland already had its independence, its own parliament.
what is your problem with scotsmen? other than implying they take your money, what is your problem?
did you know it was the scottish who started the modern banking system? not that i think that's any great achievement, but you seem to think money and the possession and power over it indicate the pinnacle of human achievement so i just thought i'd throw that in here. you have been successfully programmed by years , centuries of rule from england designed to divide and conquer first the british isles, the celtic and pagan home of many different groups. this group of people who have perpetrated oppression and superiority/inferiority throughout the centuries have not done it based on english superiority (after all, england and the english are younger than this struggle), but based on the money holders over everyone else.
you are a bigot and would do well to educate yourself rather than lapping up the offal of others you deem superior.
have a good day, eh

The answer is YES.

The best reason is to free us from bigots like yourself.

Of course, if all the Scots working for the Government had to leave, then say goodbye to the Prime Minister, Chancellor, Home Secretary, ...

Face up to the truth, without the Scots, the English could not organise an orgy in a brothel.

Yes yes yes. The bleeding scots have been whining about this for what seems like for ever. They are of no use to us English, they take up are time and money. Give them total independance and get rid of the winging arseholes once and for all. By the way, their football is **** too.

What is your problem with the Scots? They are one of the most friendliest people in the world!

By the way to a large extent Scotland is independent already, they have their own parliament, legal system etc.

Independence from what? We are part of the United Kingdom. We are not a colony or principality, but a Kingdom that shares a monarch with England and Northern Island, and it was a Scottish King that also became King of England, not vice-versa. You can't have Independence from yourself, Silly English person!

You left out an important one.

Scotland would not be in the EU and would have to re-apply as an independent country (subject to English veto).
