Samsarah is right, and sane Germans do NOT say "happy birthday" in English, unless the other person is an English speaker.

It is pronounced:/al-less 'goo-teh tsoom geh-'boorts-taak/,

the "oo" is long both times, the "aa" is a long sound like the "a" in "father", but with your tongue relaxed, the apostrophe shows the following syllables are stressed.

The real old fashioned formula is "Herzlichen Glueckwunsch zum Geburtstag", but keep that for use on a card, it's too hard to explain the pronounciation ;-)

Believe it or not, most Germans say "happy birthday".

Because it's much less of a mouthful than "herzlichen Glückwunsch zum Geburtstag".
