During the summer two jets flew over in formation!Cruising high and heading for the Americas.
One left a vapour trail stretching across the sky,the other's disappeared after a few seconds!Why was this?

From the earth you cannot have judged how far apart these aircraft were away from each other. One was probably thousands of feet higher than the other, in much colder atmosphere, therefore producing a visible vapour trail. The lower one not giving out too much vapour because of the warmer air surrounding it at a lower height.

Are you sure they weren't at different altitudes. If they were 'in formation' they were probably at different heights so this will effect the longevity of the trail.
