Excessive Blinking, excessive distraction, lack of eye contact, covering of the mouth - nose - cheeks - when talking, turning their head away at the moment of the lie, over-explaining an otherwise simple explanation, when the liar is in a bind- the liar will give a vague answer and immediately go back to a point they know you agree with and ironically enough........asking questions about why you're asking questions, including 'how do you know when someone is lying' !!!
That last one is no reflection on your answer, but it's true !!!

All I know is that I have an instinct for detecting if a person is lying to me. I really don't know what it is that they project that I can tell but I just know. I guess when a person is "too smooth" is a pretty good indication.

watch if they get defensive, like a change in their voice when being questioned.
nervousness,in a calm situation
facial expressions-usually when someone tells a lie thier face makes a sudden change and then back to the same way.
if u are persistent and they get really angry
its easier to detect lies if its someone you know really well, but if its someone you dont know too well then just look for the obvious like i said up there ^

will not hold eye contact, have to stop & think about their answer or what they are going to say next /liars always get caught because everytime they tell a lie they will have to think of another one to cover the last one /sooner or later it will catch up with them

they change their story alot, they touch their face, or grab their hair, they don't look you in the eye, they grab their ears or play with their clothes. they send out body language that cops learn to read after awhile.
