It is a great testament to faith. I also suggest Quo Vadis which is a historical fiction and talks about Christian persecution in Rome under Nero. I would like to think i would have the courage to undergo what they went through but i know i am such a coward when it comes to pain. There are martyrs everyday today it just isn't deemed newsworthy by liberal media.

I have and it was such a testament about the cruelty of men who have different believes then the other. There are so many things I remember. I don't know why but the Romans hanging Timothy upside down and then forcing saltwater up his nose made a huge impression on me. But I guess so did Peter's death upside down on the cross. Or was it Paul that had been pulled apart by the horses. I think some were dipped in tar or oil so they could burn at sundown so that they could light up the porches in the dark.
Sorry it is late but I remember all to well the Book of Martyrs. I was pregnant at the time.. So it really left an impression in my heart, soul and mind.

I have read Foxe's book and believe that it is a good testament to the fact that others have had a vibrant faith in God in the past. We dont have the corner on such things today! When confronted with the opportunity to join the Catholic church, they refused to do so even to the point of death.

Yes I have read it and I was amazed at the faith of some of these people. I doubt most of these people on the Internet understand that persecution of Christians still goes on at a rate of about 160,000+ deaths a year (still today).
I also doubt that they understand that many of them are part of the persecution of Christian by attacking them in this forum. It would seam that the world today feels everyone has a right to their point of view except Christians.
I loved the Book and will forever be changed by it, however I have come to one conclusion. I would have no problem dying for God, it is living my life for God that is so difficult. Just trying not to sin on a day to day basis, loving those who hate me and my Savior, praying for those that would harm or attack me and my beliefs.
My only hope is in Christ.

It's probably one of the greatest pieces of propaganda outside of Nazi Germany.
A real testament to MISGUIDED faith.
Reading it, you see heretics and blasphemers held up as saints and martyrs, yet all they did was deceive, and cause millions of people to lose their salvation.
The real martyrs were the early Christians who stood up for the real truth and the real faith, in the Roman persecutions, not the "enlightened" men who died for lies and half truths, a thousand years later.
