I just moved to a new apartment, and the living room is very small. The cabinets in the open kitchen/living room are red laminate with silver handles, i guess it's trying to be modern looking, and one wall in the living room is painted red, the others are white, and its darker hardwood floor. The kitchen is visible from living room, it's red cabinets, white appliances, and dark greenish granite counter. I have no idea what my color scheme should be! What color sofa should I get that goes with a red wall? I want a contemporary style, but kind of retro looking maybe.

I would compliment it with a charcoal gray...it'll make the red really pop but won't be a super obtrusive color..the red is probably enough...you don't wanna go crazy.

Nice clean white accents will pull it all together and keep it a bit fresh with all that dark.

well i would say black but u said u have a very small living room so if u put ANY dark colors in there u're going to make it look so much smaller i would go with a light color it will open the space up a little more and plus lighter colors put people in better moods ....if u go dark its kinda dreary and at times depressing

you could try black, medium to dark shades of blue, the dark hardwood floor sounds awful; (just my own taste!!) & could be covered with a large area rug in navy?? just guessing....if you want to keep the hardwood floors, so be it.....but black and some shade of blue would tie it all together; also your pillows, accessories, etc. could also be lighter shades of blue;;;;;;;;this is all off the top of my head so take it for what it's worth; hope it gets you to thinking!! good luck and have fun

I definitely wouldn't try to match that red!! Try black or dark grey. Get throw pillows in matching colors, ie red/grey/black plaid fabric or maybe a small floral with red/grey/black in it to tie it all in. Good luck with that, I don't know if I could live with red like that, even though I do like that color.

Alot of people today are using a mustard yellow(not bright yellow) with red. It looks pretty awesome.
