When you drink, the active ingredient is ethyl alcohol (ETOH). This chemical compound in the kidney prevents the action of a hormone known as "anti-diuretic hormone" or ADH. A diuretic is anything that makes you pee a lot, so ADH is something that prevents you from peeing. When you drink ETOH, it blocks ADH, so you are no longer able to reabsorb water filtered from the plasma in the kidneys, and you pee a lot of really dilute urine, which is why you have to pee so much. It's clear because it's mostly water, and it isn't very concentrated.

alcohol is a diuretic. When you have some, it and its byproducts take water more out with them when they leave than other products.
