Is it customary to give the entertainment and the photographer/videographer gratuities for their services? We are also serving them dinner as part of the reception agreement.

The following wedding professionals normally are tipped:

Valet Parking Attendants

Coat Check/Powder Room Attendants

Wait Staff/Bartenders

Civil ceremony officials (i.e. Minister, priest, rabbi) - Give the gratuity to the best man who will in turn give it to the officiant following the ceremony.

Limo driver - Make sure the tip is not included already in the bill.

Open bar at receptions - There are two views on this. Some say tip $1 for each visit to the bar. Other's contend that the tax and tip are included in the cost of the open bar, and that the guest should only tip if it is a cash bar. I lean toward the latter view, but it never hurts to be generous. If you are the host of the event, make sure it is not included.

Wedding organist, musician or soloist - First check whether or not the gratuity is included in the rental of the church.

Other wedding professionals from the wedding consultant to the photographer are tipped only if you receive extra-special service from them.

If you ask me the whole tipping thing has gotten way out of control. Restaurants put an automatic "gratuity" of 15%-20% onto tables when they exceed a certain amount of people regardless of how the service is... what's up with that!!! I realize there are a lot of cheapskates out there who don't tip well or even at all and this is probably the reason that some places felt they had to institute such measures but if a waiter or waitress KNOWS they are going to get a tip regardless of how they serve me what incentive do they have to serve me well?

I don't care what "ettiquitte" says, to me a tip is a reward for a job well done and should never be a requirement. Why should I tip someone that doesn't at least do the bare minimum for me! I tip by service and if the service is extraordinary I've been known to tip as high as 40%!

If you have contracted with them, then no. I am assuming that they are already being paid well. The only exception to this would be the entrainment if it was a freebie. My son is a DJ, and for some of the functions, if they are friends he offers his services for free. Generally the host will set up a tip jar on these occations.
