I can only answer this how I'd do it.
If my ex messaged me and his profile said single, I'd think he wanted to try and hook up with me again and wouldn't answer back.
If he was in a relationship I would think it's safe to reply, but still wouldn't answer back.
That's because I really love the man I have now and even if I didn't have my man, I wouldn't want to go back to my ex. He's an ex for a reason and he's gonna stay that way.
Sorry to burst your bubble, but that's just me.

Dont really know, but if you are in a relationship would your present girlfriend want you messaging an ex i certainly wouldnt! If you are single why would your profile say your in a relationship and vice versa. Your ex may have a boyfriend she is your ex for a reason!

You shouldn't lie about your relationship status. The worst thing that could happen is for her to say that you can be friends. That is all that you should be if you are in a relationship. Also if you are willing to put single on your status then whoever you are dating should be cut loose before you hurt her over just a possibility. If she finds out you lied then you will have a mad ex and a mad g/f. Ouch!

She'll reply if she wants to reply. It will make no difference whether you state single or otherwise. Anyway what's the point in lying about it? I was contacted by an ex boyfriend earlier this year via Friends Reunited. I replied. We email eachother occasionally. We're both happily married but it was nice to catch up.

It really depends upon the tone of your message, and of course on what you wrote. Are you interested in getting back together with her, or were you just hoping to be friends? If it sounds innocent then she would probably respond. However, if sounds like you're interested again, and she is single (or even if she is not), she may respond as she may be curious!
Hope you get the response we were hoping for. Good luck x

If your'e in a relationship, she will most likely be curious and maybe want to know more, but if your single then..........that depends on both of you...........did you break up in bad circumstances i.e.any bad bitter feelings?
If not, then talk to her, find out what she's up to, keep it on a certain level and don't show any signs of jealousy, bitterness or any bad feelings etc.
Treat like a friend, nothing else.
All the best!

Why should you care?
Don't try and play mind games.......she's obviously an ex for a reason and if she really wanted to get in touch with you, trust me she would. She wouldn't need you sending her a message to prompt her and in which case, deliberating over whether to tell her the truth or deceive her in order to assure a response is very uncool!
Pick up and move one dude.
