English isn't my native language, and I'd like to know what "I'm pushing the odds" mean. How do you say it in other words?

"I don't know what to do, John.
I'm pushing the odds."

pushing the odds or pushing against the odds. the odds are not in my favor.

Pushing the odds has two meanings. Let's say you bought 99% of the lottery tickets sold for the jackpot. That would mean you're "pushing the odds" in your favor to win!
Better yet, doing something that is going to help you get a predetermined outcome that you want.

The odds = The chances

You're taking a risk.

You could also say "I am pushing my luck." Basically, it means you are in a position from which the chance of a favorable outcome is slim or that you are increasingly the risk (odds) of a negative outcome.

The odds are against you, but you are going to do it anyway. That is, you have a less than 50/50 chance of success.

You're going against the normal, risking the unexpected. You are deciding between two undesireables. Catch 22.
