My mum was born in Armagh but I was born in England. Could I become an Irish citizen through her? I remember hearing something about being people born on the ISLAND of Ireland, north or south of the border, being citizens of Ireland.

I should add my mum has never had an Irish passport, only a British one.

You are automatically an Irish citizen through descent, but you need to apply to be included on the Foreign Births Register.

If you live in Great Britain you apply through the Irish embassy in London: 17 Grosvenor Place, London SW1X 7HR. If you live in Ireland apply through the Department of Foreign Affairs, 80 St Stephen's Green, Dublin 2.

yes i am from armagh.
i was born in northern Ireland but under the Irish Constitution {even after the amendment } you can become an Irish citizen.
i would first suggest that you claim your Irish passport to which you will get no problem. then speak to the Irish embassy and the will do the necessary paperwork for you.
the comedian spike Mulligan was born in India to English parents after the war in which he fought he was denied English citizenship because he was classed as Indian. he applied for Irish citizenship to which he qualified because his grandparent was born in Ireland

My friend was born in the US but her father is Irish and she therefore has joint citizenship. I don't know what sort of paperwork, etc. you'd have to do, but I'm fairly sure that you'd qualify. Perhaps the rules are different for British/Irish citizenship than for US/Irish citizenship, but I can't think of why that'd be.

Hello,

I'm guessing here but my guess is YES! and what matters most is that your biological mother comes from Ireland and its this that makes all the difference.

I think it depends on your age (maybe, below 18?); hence if you are an adult or not. If you are legally still a dependent, then you may if she is still a citizen.
