Generally speaking due the nature of the names, a Hotel is more expensive because it should be nicer. However, there are some inexpensive hotels available and some nicer upscale motels. Some hotels are dumps. Don't get wrapped up in the name. Find a nice hotel or motel that suits your taste, amenities, and budget.

I myself work in a Motel....& can say for sure....that sometimes...they are about the same price....it is all depending on where you are going & what the time of yr is. Our Motel runs about the same price as a room at Hilton, during certain times of the yr., but stays about the same as Best Western for the most part.

Some of your lower scale motels like Motel 6 will be cheaper then a Hotel room.
