Who should take the namecard first? It's so awkard!

If you have a conversation with another professional, at the end of your conversation, offer your business card. If they offer you a card before you have had the opportunity to give them yours, then take it, and exchange back yours.

In a business context, one never uses namecards. They are for purely social use. One does however use a business card. The more senior (in business terms, not specifically age) person may offer their card to a more junior person. That person may then (and only then) offer their own card in return. Please note, though, that in this day of dog-eat-dog and business sharks this technique, while polite, may lose you the race.
