Cats like to sleep in very strange places over-all. Usually places that are warm. Sometimes you wonder exactly HOW they're able to SLEEP in that place or position. It almost looks painful XD
http://kattforum.se/viewtopic.php?t=89436 has plenty of pictures of cats in various sleeping places and positions. The text is in Swedish, but the pictures can be amusing to look at =)
This one is the most amusing one, though XD

This is directly from "The Handbook for Cats Who Run a Household"
SLEEPING HUMANS: It is known that sleeping humans are boring. The "direct approach" is nearly always successful in rejuvenating a dormant human. Do one of the following:
Trample, purr, meow or head-butt. If the human is being stubborn, you may have to resort to more drastic tactics, such as ripping down posters, rattling blinds, or singing at the top of your voice. Eventually the human will get up and do what you want, usually in a disgruntle manner.
MORNINGS: In order to provide for you, the humans must leave the domain every morning (usually before you take your first cat nap). To help them on their way, howl loudly, massage their scalps with your claws, or gently bounce on top of them in bed. See GAMES. The best time to do this is about 24 minutes before their alarm clock goes off. We must protect them from that blaring noise for it could ruin their hearing.

Good luck!

When they say cats are creatures of comfort, they're right! I'm sure it's because your head gives off heat, and also because they love the feeling of hair against their fur. They like the feeling of fur on fur-try putting a furry rug down and see your cat run to it!

All the heat of the body comes out on the head - that is the reason they put little caps on newborn babies; so they do not lose body heat from their heads.
Cats like to sit on your head because the warmth radiates off your head.

When my cat was a baby she used to sleep right on top of my head on the pillow. We used to call her "The Living Hat". I guess they like to do it because the hair feels like fur and it reminds them of cuddling with their mama when they were babies.

You lose most of your body heat though your head. It's been way colder than usual where we live all this week and my kitty has NOT got off my pillow. She's driving me crazy, would you like to have her?

Because of the warmth. Heat escapes through your head so they get all cozy and warm by absorbing that heat.

To be close to their humans.
I had a cat that used to sleep on my head and we had a really close bond. I miss him a lot.
