They can go either way. If the people online are truthful, meet and pursue in real space, and find they are compatible then the internet has provided them with a vehicle to meet and they may have not otherwise done so.
Conversely, if they are misleading it can spell disaster. The internet can bring depth to a relationship because of the massive amount of writing and talking that is done long distance.
I am not considering relocating but if I met someone online, later in person and he struck me as ' the one', I would most certainly move. In fact, I would wonder if he would do the same for me. It depends on career and family and other logistics being taken care of. I think ultimately the results you get depend upon how astute, open minded and analytical you are.
If you can reason your way through it, it might be worth pursuing but if attraction because of typed words spells it for you, you need to look further. It can be the beginning of a beautiful thing but without that elusive first coffee, you will never know. No one can maintain an online relationship in perpetuity. I hope that this assists you.

I don't know about the whole relocation because that I think would just depend on time of togetherness. And I am speaking from personal exp. What I can say is that I met my BF online and it has been a wonderful 8 months. But just always be cautious of online dating. I still can't believe till this day that I met my bf online I never thought I would actually do the whole online dating.

Depends on what you mean by successful. My current wife & I met off of eHarmony... So I know it works. Of course you can only go back a few years, since the online dating was available. I strongly feel that you meet a much wider selection of people online, and if you are honest (completely) about what you're looking for, you are able to narrow the field much sooner. Answer the questions truthfully, and as long as the people you are matched with do the same thing, you should find just what you truly want.

I've been in an online relationship now (with the same person) for over two and a half years now. We see each other when we can and, yeah it sucks to be apart at times, but we love each other to have kept it all together all this time.
Don't get me wrong, though. I've seen many online relationships burn to ash - some quickly, some not-so-quickly.
It's really just a shot in the dark whether it works or not.

Its a risk not worth taking. How about asking him to your hometown and enable you both to understand each other and see if the relationship can develop further before you having to plunge into relocating. My best wishes!

Its like any other relationship. Who says that all other relationships are a success? U have to take it on a case by case basis.

No, because I have no interest in becoming the "decomposing remains" that the police find in the wilderness six months later.
