Most of the people have good reason not to be confident: they are just not clever enough, beautiful enough and so on. in other words, they are inferior (or they feel or believe they are inferior) to others and to the "standard" media promotes.

Maybe for some it has to do with experiences in early childhood that led them to believe from a young age that they were worthless or not good enough. Sometimes it just takes a bad relationship, possibly involving mental or physical abuse, to make someone feel that they are inferior and are not worthy of being loved and in turn lack love for themselves. These types of factors would probably bring down a person's confidence level a great deal.
I'm sure there are many other reasons for a lack of confidence, depending on the person and their past/present situation. There's always hope though.

Maybe because it is easier to focus on one negative aspect of life than to realize how lucky you are to be here in the first place. Im not sure but i wish more people were a bit more confident. Personally, even when im not confident I still try to portray that I am, that way I dont look weak. Hmm, maybe thats why people say im a "know it all" :P

Some people have been rejected so many times that they can't help but lack self confidence. Some people have been treated like **** in relationships, and think it is something they did wrong and deserved the treatment.
Some people have failed at so many things, it's hard to think of the times they succeeded, if in fact, there was a time.

In today's unsecured world many things can happened, e.g. hurricane, tornedo, tsunami, earthquake, etc.. You may be here today and gone tomorrow. Many are fearful of losing what they have now. The world today has changed so much that no one has confident in it and themselves anymore.
