So someone stole my credit card number and bought $10,000 worth of American Express Gift Cards. They shipped them to my house but i guess they waited outside and when the delivery guy came, they signed the package and ran off with it.
(I work during the day)

Is there anyway i could find out what the numbers were of the gift cards and a store could track them down? Or if they used them at a store they could get caught? Or if i could cancel them?

Do i have to pay for them since they were shipped to my house?

I call Visa and they wont give me the time of thier day.

Please Help.

Step 1 - u need to report this to your bank that someone has stolen or even clone your card. And you don't have to pay anything until this is resolved.

Step 2 - your bank will then assist you to contact Amex and they will be able to find out what is the card number, under who's name and etc.

Step 3 - U can track it down once you know the number BUT don't think you can stop the transaction as a gift card is like a prepaid card the 10K has already been downloaded to the card. Therefore will be utilized until it reaches "ZERO". However some gift cards feature may be different in your country so all this you will need your bank's assistance.

I am quite surprise visa brush you away as they would refer you to your respective bank. Worse case scenario make a police report urgently and make a bee line to your central bank for help.

Yes a lot u can do, if you are willing to :)
I had similar experience.
First, call up your bank which issued your card, ask them following :
1. block the card or get a new one.
2. Tell them the transactions happened on your card. They will tell you merchant name/site where it happened. Get all details like Payment Gateway No if it was online or Transaction no.
3. Submit all these transactions as false ones (not done by you), VISA/MasterCard whoever it is, will give you credit for those transactions and put them as charge under review. Their investigation dept will find out who has done the charges. If they find someone else has done, then all charges will be cancelled from ur name. If they find, you have done it, u need to pay along with interest.

Now call up that merchant where gift card was issued, give all your identification and get the gift card numbers OR ask them to block gift cards with those numbers. Unfortunately, all cards might be used already. But in all cases, if you prove that transactions are not done by you, VISA has to revert your changes (as they have to continue their business worldwide :)

One more thing u can do, Register a police complaint. This will help you in all your future reference. Banks/Merchant all have to give you required details if you have a police complaint.

Best luck.

American Express gift cards have something to cancel the cards but you will be issued new cards not refunded the money. You may be out 10,000 though. The company that delivered the package should have a signature that might help you since it does not match. Contact the local FBI office, fraud division, and ask for more help. Your bank may also be able to offer you advice. Good Luck

omg, that's terrible...I know you have reported this to the police already. It's too bad you didn't notice those people lurking around you house waiting for all those couriers to arrive. I've been a police officer for several years now, these people sound rather sophisticated, why not hire a PI to track them, won't cost as much as the credit card company is looking if they catch them.

Well If I was in your shoes. I would have canceled the card. I would have called the police & made a police report. Without a Police report you have nothing. Shoot if I was 10,000 in debt I would not be on Yahoo I would be @ the police station.
