I have seen some people whose eyes has turned deep yellowish. Is it a sign of chronic hepatitis or other disease like for example liver cancer? In case of chronic hepatitis will the color of eyes remain abnormal?

I was just wondering, which disease is mainly causing it since this symptom seems to be seen more often among certain groups of people (I don't mean drug users this time)

Yellowing eyes and/or yellowing skin can be a a sign of jaundice . The yellow pigment is from bilirubin. Jaundice can be caused from a number of issues, such as various liver problems(such as hepatitis), anemia, drug side effects, an obstruction such as a gallstone or a tumor, or excessive alcohol intake. The whites of your eyes are not necessarily going to remain yellow, once you begin treating whatever is causing this symptom it should go away. You should not become overly worried. However, you should go see your physician immediately to start treating the problem. It could be something so simple as you needing to take iron supplements(for anemia).

If you have any other questions, just ask and I will re-edit my answer.

Good luck and stay positive!!!

Jaundice is a yellow color in the skin, the mucous membranes, or the eyes. The yellow pigment is from bilirubin, a byproduct of old red blood cells.
Please see the web page for more details on Jaundice.

It is actually a disease called Jaundice. It is quite common in babies. It is also known as yellow fever. Sometimes you see newborn babies being kept in an incubator? High chance its because of that. Its basically because the liver of the newborn hasn't developed yet. It is treatable in adults and is not a critical illness.

I think it is Jaundice.. It is not a disease in itself, but a symptom of some disorder characterized by a yellow discoloration of skin, eye etc, caused by absorption of bile into the blood. Consult your doctor for proper diagnosis.

It can be a sign of any disease that affects the liver. All of it depends on how well the liver is holding out.

the whites of the eyes will remain yellow (pale maybe) until the liver becomes healthy enough to clean the toxins from the blood stream.
